VCT (Voluntary Counselling and Testing) Services
CAAP maintains an open door policy of providing free of cost anonymous testing
of blood for HIV/STI with pre/post test counselling and behaviour change
education to avoid transmission of HIV/STI. Condoms are given to the person who
requires it, to encourage them to practise healthy behaviour. Experienced
counsellors perform rapid testing HIV/AIDS and provide pre-post test
counselling. The very experience and qualified lab technician complements the
counsellors by performing confirmatory test in case the rapid tests yield
positive. Quality control and universal precautions are maintained according to
WHO/GOB guideline. Following are the services provided under the VCT Services:
1) Counselling and testing:
• Rapid test for diagnosis of HIV infection with pre-post test counselling
• Condom demo/distribution
• Dissemination of information/solution in response to HIV/STI related queries
of general population and PLHIV through telephone
• Documentation
2) From the laboratory:
• Confirmatory test for HIV/STI
• CD4+ Cell Count test
• Haematological test (CBC) etc
• Biochemistry test (LFT, KFT, Lipid profile) etc
• Serological tests (Blood grouping, HBsAg, Anti-HCV, VDRL, ASO titre, Widal
etc)
• Stool and Urine analysis
• AFB staining, gram staining, MT
• Pregnancy test
Hotline Telephone Counselling
Using a land telephone, anonymous information on HIV/AIDS/STI is provided in
response to queries of callers from all over Bangladesh. The services are
available from 9.00 am to 5.00 p.m. from Sunday through Thursday. Promotions of
available services are done through advertisements. Different concerns of
callers are recorded in the prescribed forms and analysed every quarter. One
senior counsellor with educational background psychology is responsible to
provide the services
